After meeting the management team of Closet Maid in the mid 1980’s and seeing what could be done with the Ventilated Wire Shelving, we saw an opportunity to take closet and storage spaces to a level unseen in decades of home building. Starting out in the garage, we quickly expanded to a warehouse to meet the growing demand for closet organization.
We began creating storage solutions with the wire materials early on and quickly incorporated pre-finished white laminate as it grew in popularity. Over the next 3 decades the options for closets increased substantially. We soon would offer 75 different colors to choose from.
From that humble start with the wire product to deciding we needed to branch out to the melamine or laminate products, we have done so keeping cost efficiency and affordability in mind.
Our team of professionals continue to strive for excellence. From our first greeting and meeting through the projects final completion. We ensure every encounter keeps our customers needs and desires ahead of everything else.

After working in the space organization industry for a few years, we started off on our own in 1984. All of the consultations, designing, fabrication and installations were done by the owner himself. Everything was constructed from scratch in a garage. This started out with the white metal shelving and continued on with white melamine as it grew in its popularity as a prefinished product. Over the course of 3 decades, not only have our materials improved but also better construction and installation methods. We have gone from having a white only option to over 75 colors to choose from.
In business for over 30 years, surviving small economy downturns to the most recent recession of the economy, we have done so with absolutely no advertising. This means we have built a business on repeat and referral business only thus far. We believe this says a lot while many of our competitors pour millions into advertising and strategic customer acquisitions. We believe customer service is paramount. Without it, we would be nothing. Every customer holds the key to our next job.
All of our products are made and fabricated in our own shop from sheets of wood to the exact specifications of your space and design. This results in a truly custom product and installation. Our competitors order the materials for customers from an outlet facility. This keeps their eyes off of your project, leaves them with no control of the quality and demands longer lead times and shipping delays. If any mistakes or modifications arise for them on the install day it will take at least a week to solve. Any issues we encounter (hvac, electrical, flooring) can be resolved immediately.
All of our fabricators, sales staff and installers are employees, not subcontractors like most of our competition. This means they represent St. Charles Closets. Along with this comes great care, pride and integrity in their work. Whenever possible we believe it is always better to have a member of our own company with their hand on every aspect of the project from design-build-installation. They are paid salary so you can expect a casual experience with no commission driven upgrades to be pressured with.
All of the materials used and offered not only maintains industry standards and are CARB Compliant, they are at least the exact same products used by many of our competitors. This helps clear up the notion that a larger company has any more superior material to offer. Knowing our materials are delivered from the same sources brings our competition down to size and easier to compare from a pricing perspective.
Not only do we maintain industry standards, we also fabricate and use above standard installation methods. We continue to use ¾” materials not ⅝” as some of our competitors offer. We use full extension ball bearing slides for our drawers and pull outs, round rods for our hang bars and decorative handles as standard, not upgrades as with our competitors.
We strive to maintain lead times 2-3 weeks to help take your project from dream stage to a reality. Why wait 4-6 weeks for a project that is basically ordered from a large warehouse when you can have a custom built closet in just a couple weeks?
We have over 30 years of experience in outfitting your home with closets and all other storage needs. Everything we learned has been thru hands on experience, nothing taught in a “how to design closets” seminar.
This term is used way too often. A custom closet should be designed to fit your exact space, with very specified dimensions for a truly built in end result. It should not be designed around stock sized materials, rather the materials should always be designed around a specific rooms dimensions.
We always treat your home with care. Blankets, booties and coverings are used on every job to ensure neither your home or materials are damaged in the process. The cat stays inside, the baby stays sleeping and we always do a walk thru with the client to ensure 100% satisfaction.
Don’t let the name fool you. We service the entire Chicagoland area and all of the surrounding suburbs. Our current service radius is within 50 miles of St. Charles, il.
